Comprising 1,650 researchers spread across 14 Research Centres around the world, our Global R&D team aims to continuously improve the quality of steel and its manufacturing processes. This involves investigating and developing disruptive technologies, reducing the carbon footprint of steel, and optimizing costs while maintaining uncompromising quality. The team's strong multicultural diversity, with over 30 nationalities, offers international experience and makes it possible to meet global needs.
You will be based at the Maizières Process research centre, in a multicultural cluster of 35 researchers organized into three teams, working on the development and deployment of process solutions for ArcelorMittal.
You will join the Rolling Processes team working on innovative solutions to improve the quality of hot and cold-rolled products before delivery to customer and to support the development of new steel grades for different applications.
Business travels will allow you to work with partners in a worldwide perimeter and to experience different working cultures.
Your role
You will be in charge of developing and deploying rolling process solutions, mainly designed to:
- adapt and/or reinvent existing processes to pursue the ArcelorMittal progress towards carbon neutral steel
- adapt the process to design new steel products aligned with company's environmental commitment and the market trends (light weighting & electrification of vehicles)
- participate actively to the digital transformation of ArcelorMittal
- improve the productivity & reliability of ArcelorMittal production lines
As a Scientific computing and Solid Mechanics Research Engineer, your main missions will be:
- Lead the ongoing investment plans within the department in the tribology field
- Technical watch and exploratory projects in lubrication
- Support new product developments, including new steel grades for electrical vehicles using semi-analytical models
- Support process optimization using numerical methods
- Validate the R&D models by organizing and performing trials in all ArcelorMittal plants
- Be involved to the digitalization process of the company with the development of cutting-edge tools
- Contribute to the renewal of R&D activities by proposing new ideas and new projects
Your profile
- You hold a Master's degree in Solid Mechanics. A PhD would be a plus.
- You have a first experience in Solid Mechanics and/or Numerical modelling. Project leader background would be an asset.
- You have strong skills in numerical computation methods and in C/C++ and Python. Another language would be a plus.
- You have experience in forming processes.
- You have good skills in Finite Element Method.
- You are fluent in French and English.
- You are curious, results oriented with a structured approach manner.
- You have advanced communication skills and excellent social skills when working on a project with a multi-cultural environment.
- You are willing to travel worldwide.
