(40%)* Regularly assesses patient's needs and provides skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician authorized plan of care and accepted standards of evidence based nursing practice. May be assigned Pre-authorization testing duties.
(30%)* Provides direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, education, call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties as appropriate.
(20%)* Evaluates effectiveness of treatment plan and makes suggestions or participates in updating/revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care.
(10%) *The RN is knowledgeable and compliant with all local, state and federal regulations and guidelines as well as hospital specific policies and procedures relating to care provided in the medical center.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May be assigned PAT RN duties, they are responsible for assessing surgical patients prior to their procedure to ensure they are medically optimized, informed, and cleared for surgery. They act as the liaison between the patient, surgeon, anesthesia team, and other providers to identify and resolve potential issues that may delay or complicate surgery. Primary duties and responsibilities: Conduct thorough pre-op assessments (medical/surgical history, allergies, medications, lab results, diagnostic testing, anesthesia risk factors). Review and reconcile medications, including instructions on which meds to hold or continue. Evaluate patient readiness for surgery (vitals, comorbidities, recent illnesses). Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and other specialists to address abnormal findings or additional testing needs. Facilitate clearance for patients with complex medical conditions. Ensure documentation is accurate and available for the surgical team.

Ensures that current history and physical is on the chart, that the plan of care in the history and physical match surgical consent, and the surgical consent is signed by patient.
Ensures completion and documentation of necessary lab work, x-rays, and cardiograms for surgical patients and communicates necessary results to the surgeon and anesthesiologist in a timely manner.
Completes procedural checklist.
Initiates physician orders and completes necessary tasks to ensure that patient is safely prepared for surgery.
Participates in direct patient care.
Performs other clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with all established policies and procedures within the health system.
Practices within the scope of practice as designated by the state of licensure.
Delegates appropriate tasks and oversee completion of tasks by other members of the team.
Assists anesthesiologist in performing nerve blocks by ensuring proper site marking, completion of safety check list, signing of consent, and maintaining sterile field. All other duties as assigned.

Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
This position must show knowledge, ability, and competence in treating unit specific patient populations.
Subject to on-call or irregular schedule.
Must follow MyMichigan Health blood borne pathogen and TB testing as required.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
