Summary:
Provide customers with prompt service and quality products while maintaining a clean and friendly environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepare café menu items by using standard facility equipment and following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques
• Handle cash and credit card transactions
• Unlock and secure café upon opening and closing
• Assume responsibility for quality of products prepared and served
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following MTA and Department of Health standards for cleanliness, food handling and sanitation
• Greet all customers, maintain a friendly, courteous and cheerful demeanor, answer customer questions and provide prompt service
• Perform light janitorial duties including sweeping, mopping, wiping countertops and tabletops and removing trash
• Maintain and operate all café equipment per manufacturer and company specifications
• Follow policies and procedures in place to help control food cost and minimize waste
• Regular and reliable attendance required
• Perform all other related duties as assigned
Skills/Knowledge:
• Must have basic math skills (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing) for cash handling purposes
• Requires constant daily interaction with people
• Must be able to operate a calculator, credit card terminal and cash register
• Must be able to multi-task
Education/Experience:
• High School Diploma preferred
• Previous barista or food service experience preferred
Certificates and Licenses:
• Must obtain Food Handler Certification within 3 months of hire
