Litigation Counsel - Employment Practice Liability
Position Overview:
McGuinness & Cicero, the Chubb Staff Counsel office, is seeking a seasoned litigation attorney with a strong background in Employment Practice Liability for our Tampa, Florida office. This role involves defending employment claims and general liability/casualty cases in Florida's state and federal courts on behalf of Chubb’s insureds. The ideal candidate will manage cases from inception through trial, including motion practice, discovery, investigations, pleadings, mediation, and appeals. Regular reporting and case evaluations to clients and claim examiners are also key responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Full-file responsibility for assigned cases, including trial preparation and execution.
• Defend employment claims and general liability/casualty cases.
• Prepare detailed reports and evaluations for clients and claim examiners.
• Engage in motion practice, discovery, investigations, pleadings, mediation, and appeals.
Work Location: This position is located in Tampa, Florida.
Travel: Required to handle cases across various jurisdictions within Florida.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
• Admission to The Florida Bar and the U.S. District Courts of Florida.
• Extensive experience in employment law claims, including litigation and administrative claims.
• Proven track record in handling casualty/general liability claims.
• Significant jury trial experience, particularly with high-exposure cases.
• In-depth knowledge of procedural and substantive law in employment discrimination, premises liability, construction accidents and defects, motor vehicle liability, products liability, and defamation.
• Strong advocacy and negotiation skills, both verbal and written.
• Analytical skills to tackle complex legal issues.
• Proactive communication with clients, Claims staff, and other team members.
• Strong research and writing capabilities.
• Proficiency in electronic case management systems and electronic court filings.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills to thrive in a high-volume environment.
