Summary:
The Lead Mechanical Engineer – Production Team is responsible for overseeing the translation of engineering designs into production-ready plans. This role focuses on manufacturability, efficiency, and continuous improvement in the shop environment.
The position bridges engineering and manufacturing — resolving design challenges, ensuring documentation accuracy, and driving production success through hands-on leadership and technical expertise.
The Lead Mechanical Engineer will guide a team of engineers and technicians in developing manufacturing plans, tooling, fixtures, and process improvements that drive efficiency, reliability, and quality across production. They will serve as the primary engineering liaison to manufacturing, providing immediate, practical solutions to production issues and leading continuous improvement initiatives.

This position requires both strategic oversight and on-the-floor engagement — partnering with design, quality, and operations teams to ensure every product is built right the first time and meets both internal and customer expectations.


Accountabilities:
  • Lead and support production in resolving design and fabrication challenges.
  • Develop and release detailed drawings, weldments, and assembly instructions for manufacturing.
  • Validate designs through shop review, testing, and inspection.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing engineers and shop leads to improve workflow and efficiency.
  • Review and approve redlines, engineering changes, and as-built documentation.
  • Participate in process improvement, Lean, and 5S initiatives.
  • Train and mentor production designers and technicians on design interpretation.
  • Maintain design standards and documentation consistency.

Required Knowledge/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 5+ years in design-for-manufacturing or production engineering.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and manufacturing process planning.
  • Understanding of sheet metal, welding, and assembly practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
