Position Summary:
The Accounting Associate supports the financial operations of Rocky Mountain Communities, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing solutions. This role is responsible for performing a variety of accounting tasks, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mission-driven, and committed to supporting the financial integrity of our organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process accounts payable and receivable transactions in a timely and accurate manner.
- Prepare and post journal entries; maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings.
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation for audits and compliance.
- Support the preparation of grant reports and funding proposals by providing financial data.
- Assist with budget tracking and variance analysis.
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure accurate allocation of expenses.
- Maintain vendor files and ensure compliance with internal controls and procurement policies.
- Support the annual audit process by preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or affordable housing setting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles (FASB, fund accounting) preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to the mission of affordable housing and community development.
Working Conditions:
- This position operates in a professional office environment with occasional visits to housing sites.
- Standard work hours with occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
