The Plant Engineer position will be responsible for leading engineering and maintenance activities at a site. Working under limited supervision, the Plant Engineer maintains production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and the condition of the site. This position oversees skilled Technicians to maintain the facility, including grounds, buildings, equipment, and assets. The Plant   Engineer will need to ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and plant reliability to align equipment availability with operating requirements. 

Requirements

 

Essential Functions:

  • Create a high level of equipment availability through Planned Maintenance to minimize unscheduled repairs or equipment failures as measured by the departments KPI’s. 
  • Through daily huddles and technician coaching sessions, maintain consistent communications with plant operations for scheduling, planning, and training purposes. Meet or exceed agreed KPI’s and individual goals.
  • Ensures Maintenance and Project expenses and objectives under span of control are met and on budget.
  • Use Lean concepts to identify and implement continuous improvement and systematic problem solving to remedy root causes for improved plant performance. 
  • Coordinates activities with management to review planned maintenance, projects, objectives, timelines, and communications within the plant.
  • Responsibilities may include performing research, designing smaller or large projects within financial and operational scope, and implementing these projects, or sub-sets of complex projects.
  • Mentor and support the development of facility operations and maintenance personnel. 
  • Delivery and support of cost saving initiatives to accomplish productivity targets. 
  • Active support and participation in driving reliability and safety initiatives through root cause analysis, idea generation and task execution.
  • Oversees Maintenance Technicians and provides ongoing training to maximize the efficiency of the work force and meet operational requirements.
  • Process safety stewardship in all aspects; change management, hazard analysis and abnormal situation management.
  • Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests and ensures operation of machinery by completing preventive maintenance requirements by following diagrams, sketches, manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications and troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with site level Environmental and OSHA procedures, rules, and regulations. Upholds site level Environmental and OSHA records and reports as appropriate.
  • Communicates with production management planned repairs and/or maintenance of critical plant equipment to minimize down time.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, project management, organization, decision making ability, relationship building and interfaces well with others. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adhering to safety practices; and operating equipment used in technical maintenance trades.
  • Ability to present information to others. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include safety practices and procedures, and advanced fundamentals of MEP and general building preservation.
  • Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adapting to changing work priorities; displaying maintenance technical aptitude; meeting deadlines, setting priorities. Must exhibit strong leadership skills and be willing to train and mentor technicians and work as part of a team. 

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to stand, sit and/or walk repeatedly throughout most of the workday.
  • When in the plant, subject to the outside environment with possible exposure to extreme temperatures (heat, cold, humidity, etc.).
  • Position is occasionally exposed to fumes, odors, dust, mists, airborne particles, chemicals, heights, cramped quarters, oil, grease and dirt.
  • Normal lifting of up to 50 pounds is possible.
  • Mobility is necessary in order to perform assigned functions.
  • Noise level is moderate to heavy as the work area is a production environment.
  • Position requires the ability to occasionally work different shifts to monitor plant performance.
  • Personal protective equipment is available and will be required to be worn as the situation dictates.

Required Credentials:

  • BS in Engineering preferred with a minimum of Five years’ experience in manufacturing systems or Ten plus years of experience leading a Technical team in a manufacturing environment.
  • This position requires the knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, electronics (PLC), hydraulics, heating ventilation, air conditioning, carpentry, welding, machining and fabricating. The position also requires proficiency in troubleshooting the before listed categories.
  • Technical knowledge of maintenance equipment and capital project activities and experience leading associates of various skill levels required.
  • Must have well developed communication and basic math skills, organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills, efficient multi-tasking abilities, ability to supervise multiple workers in an often fast-paced environment, organizational skills, and able to foster a positive team working environment.
