Senior Manufacturing Supervisor (Frontline Leadership Role)
Location: Lansing, MI
Department: Culture Media – Manufacturing Operations
Reports To: Senior Manager, Food Safety Operations
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 10-hour shifts
Position Summary
The Senior Manufacturing Supervisor is a key frontline leadership role within Neogen’s Culture Media Department, responsible for overseeing daily production across two shifts. This position provides direct supervision to the 2nd shift supervisor, 1st shift team lead, and 1st shift production team members. The role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant operations while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. It reports to the Senior Manager, Food Safety Operations and plays a critical role in driving performance and supporting cross-functional collaboration. This is a senior-level supervisory position focused on execution and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily manufacturing operations across both 1st and 2nd shifts.
- Directly manage the 2nd shift supervisor, 1st shift team lead, and 1st shift production staff.
- Ensure production goals are met while maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as output, scrap rate, and downtime.
- Facilitate effective communication and coordination between shifts, including daily handoff meetings.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Quality, Maintenance, Planning, Engineering) to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Support onboarding, training, and development of team members.
- Maintain accurate production documentation and ensure audit readiness.
- Lead investigations and corrective actions for production deviations.
- Drive lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead shift-level capacity planning and resource allocation to meet production targets.
- Ensure timely escalation and resolution of equipment or process issues impacting throughput.
- Support internal audits and regulatory inspections by maintaining documentation and readiness.
- Partner with Quality Assurance to implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
- Act as the primary liaison between production and support functions (e.g., Planning, Engineering, Quality).
- Participate in new product introductions or process validations as the production representative.
Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent experience required; bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, including supervisory or team leadership responsibilities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, drive results, and maintain high standards for safety and quality.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g., food safety, pharma, biotech) is a plus.
- Familiarity with SAP or other ERP systems preferred.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing floor and office setting.
- PPE required in production areas.
- Occasional lifting, standing, and walking throughout the facility.
