Position Title: K-12 English Language Learner Instructional Paraprofessional
Qualifications:
? Must be at least 18 years of age.
? High school diploma or equivalent required. Paraprofessional certification must be
attained within 6 months of employment through one of the following options:
1. Obtain 60 college credit hours
2. ParaPro Assessment through ETS
3. Completed the 20HR Substitute Certificate Course
? Proficiency in English required. Bilingual applicants encouraged.
? Capacity to work with staff to provide services to students with limited English language
? Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
? Ability to provide services to students in academic content areas
? Previous experience in working with limited English students or adults preferred
? Maintain confidentiality of student and family information as required under FERPA
? Capability to work efficiently under minimum supervision
Contract Type: This is a 9-month, part-time contracted position, aligned with the District’s
academic calendar.
Reports To: Building Principal/Special Services Director/ELL Instructor
Terms of Employment: Wage and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education.
Position Summary: The English Learner (EL) paraprofessional's primary responsibility is
providing supplemental instruction for identified EL students under the direction of the EL and
classroom teachers in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The instruction is
focused on improving the English language acquisition abilities of students whose primary home
language is not English.
Key Responsibilities:
? Provides supplemental instruction for identified ELL students under the direction of the
ELL and classroom teachers, individually or in small group settings, in accordance with
the students’ individual language acquisition goals.
? Tutor students on assigned class work.
? Supervise ELL students and assist them with self-help and behavioral management
skills.
? Build strong relationships with students, staff and families.

? Assist the ELL and classroom teachers with lesson material preparation.
? Communicate effectively with teachers and other district staff.
? Attend meetings, workshops and training sessions as directed.
? Assist the ELL Coordinator with language assessments.

? There may be mental demands that require emotional control under stress.
Performance Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the
provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
