Mitchell College seeks to hire a student-centered leader to serve as Assistant or Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education with a specialization in Literacy or Special Education.  For an additional stipend, the successful candidate will also serve as the Early Childhood Education Coordinator responsible for state and national accreditation processes, overseeing the ECE Certification Officer, and as a liaison to the Children’s Learning Center on the Mitchell College campus. The Early Childhood Education program offers three degrees: Early Childhood Studies (A.S.), Early Childhood Education (B.S.), and Integrated Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-Grade 3) Leading to Teacher Certification (B.S.). The Early Childhood Education program is under the Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and as faculty the Early Childhood Education Coordinator reports to the Division Chair. 

Responsibilities:

  • Teach 24 semester hours per academic year.
  • Serve as the Early Childhood Education Coordinator overseeing CAEP accreditation and state approval processes;
  • Assist in supporting teacher candidates who are seeking teacher certification;
  • Assist in building the schedule of Education classes each semester and hiring part-time Education faculty;
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention activities;
  • Work to achieve excellence in three criteria: Teaching & Mentoring, Professional Development Activities, College Involvement and Service to the Community
  • Fulfill the duties and responsibilities of a faculty member as defined in the Master Contract (American Federation of Teachers, Local #3249)
  • Serve as the liaison to the Mitchell College Children’s Learning Center:  https://mitchell.edu/childrens-learning-center/

Required Education and Experience:

  • Doctorate in Education from an accredited institution
  • Specialization in Literacy or Special Education
  • Experience with state and/or national accreditation
  • Demonstrated successful teaching at the college level
  • Demonstrated successful teaching in an early childhood school setting 
  • Experience developing and revising curriculum
  • Experience assessing student learning outcomes
  • Preference for candidates who have experience in and passion for working with diverse learners
