Position Title: Beats Rhymes & Life (BRL) Academy Fellow
Department: Behavioral Health
Reports Directly to: Beats, Rhymes and Life Program Director
Position Summary
Beats, Rhymes and Life Academy is a two-year workforce training program to prepare young adults, (ages 18-25) to enter the mental health field. Over two years, Academy Fellows participate in a paid internship which includes on-the-job training, a practicum with hands-on activities, classroom education and personal supports. Fellows work in a “Learn and Earn” model for 20 hours/week. BRL Academy activities take place at the CSR office and within the community: in families’ homes, group homes, foster homes, schools, and online.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work as part of the BRL team as an Academy Fellow for a duration of 2 year.
- Meet weekly at the CSR office for required learning and practicum requirements
- Participate in a BRL Therapeutic Activity Group and learn the model
- Work with BRL team to help organize and host Freestyle Fridays
- Work with BRL team on social media campaign. Support with content creation and sharing on different social media platforms
- Assist with other BRL activities.
- Develop a TIP personal action plan and receive support in achieving personal goals.
- Meet at designated group sites within the community for participation or support with facilitation.
- Participate in group supervision.
- Support outreach efforts on an ongoing basis for program participants
- Attend BRL staff meeting and any other mandatory trainings
- Upholds the ideals of the agency and BRL program. Maintains professional behavior at all times, appropriately representing both the CSR and BRL mission, values and philosophy
- Performs all other duties as necessary for the good of the agency as directed by the supervisor(s)
Education/Required Skills and Experience:
- High School diploma or G.E.D required.
- Motivated to help other young people on their journey to healing.
- Relevant life experience. Willing to share aspects of your life journey to help other young people.
- Experience creating music and/or knowledge of Hip Hop music, culture, trends and how it connects to yourself and other youth
- Dedicated to finishing the entire program and persevering through difficult times.
- Culturally attuned and able to work with diverse groups of young adults. Bilingual skills are desired & valued
