About the Department
Alabama State University, Operations and Event Management invites applications for a Tailgate Assistant. The Tailgate Assistant is responsible for providing assistance planning, organizing, and executing tailgate events to enhance school spirit, alumni engagement, and game day experience. This role ensures a vibrant, safe, and organized tailgating environment that aligns with the university’s branding, traditions, and community outreach goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the logistics for all home-game tailgate events, including space allocation, permits, vendor relations, equipment rentals, and signage.
- Serve as the secondary point of contact for student organizations, alumni groups, and external vendors participating in tailgates.
- Help manage tailgate registration processes, including setup maps, check-in protocols, and event guidelines.
- Collaborate with university departments (e.g., Campus Police, Facilities, Marketing) to ensure compliance with safety, health, and branding standards.
- Assist with developing tailgate themes and promotional activities that drive attendance and fan engagement.
- Assist with overseeing on-site event execution including setup, troubleshooting, and breakdown.
- Assist with maintaining inventory of tailgate-related supplies and promotional materials.
- Assist with budget planning and tracking for tailgate activities.
- Assist in soliciting sponsorships or partnerships to enhance tailgate offerings when applicable.
- Gather feedback after each event to improve future planning and operations.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma with experience in hospitality, events management, marketing, or related field; excellent organizational and multitasking skills, strong interpersonal skills; must have a flexible schedule to work evenings, weekends, and game days as needed; must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds, and stand for extended periods of time. This position regularly works outdoors during various weather conditions on game days.
