Senior Actuarial Manager (12-Month Contract)

The Opportunity
We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Actuarial Manager to lead the day-to-day actuarial activities for HCF’s Diversified Business portfolio. This role primarily focuses on HCF Life, with potential exposure to Overseas Visitors Health Cover (OVHC) and white-labelled general insurance products.
You’ll lead a talented team of four actuaries/analysts and play a key role in shaping product, pricing, and strategic decisions across the portfolio. This is a high-impact role offering exposure to senior stakeholders, including participation in Product and Pricing Committees (PPC) and collaboration with external Appointed Actuaries.
What You’ll Do
Pricing & Product Development
Oversee actuarial work supporting product changes and pricing strategies.
Draft or review pricing reports and actuarial advice for product and business initiatives.
Analysis & Reporting
Lead experience reviews and performance monitoring across claims, lapse, and sales.
Manage monthly reporting and reserving for the OVHC portfolio.
Contribute to budgeting, year-end processes, ICAAP, and valuation reports.
Analyse HCF and industry performance trends to generate actionable insights.
Stakeholder Engagement
Partner with the Head of Actuarial on strategic roadmaps and decision-making.
Collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, Risk, IT, and Member divisions.
Liaise with external Appointed Actuaries to support statutory and strategic deliverables.
Modelling & Projects
Enhance and maintain actuarial models for pricing, budgeting, and monitoring.
Support strategic initiatives through data-driven insights and recommendations.
Research regulatory and competitive developments impacting the diversified business.
People Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing actuarial team.
Conduct performance reviews, coaching, and professional development planning.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that celebrates achievements.
Regulatory & Compliance
Ensure compliance with all relevant actuarial, financial, and WHS standards.
Proactively identify, assess, and report potential regulatory or operational risks.
About You
FIAA qualification (or equivalent) with 5–10 years’ experience in actuarial or related business roles.
Strong background in life insurance (valuations, pricing, and financial reporting).
Working knowledge or keen interest in the Australian health insurance industry.
Proven leadership and people management skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Advanced Excel modelling skills; experience with SAS, R, or Python is an advantage.
Strategic mindset with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
