Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets. We are more than 36,000 people, in over 70 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world's most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.
Arcadis is seeking an experienced Principal Grid Connection Engineer to lead and grow a new, agile team specialising in grid connection studies and integration across Australia.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the technical direction, culture, and growth of a specialist discipline within a Tier 1 global consultancy. You will play a pivotal role in building team capability through mentoring power system engineers and graduates, setting technical standards, driving quality across all grid connection workstreams, and representing Arcadis in client engagements.
By joining Arcadis, you will help shape an emerging capability while gaining exposure to some of the world’s most ambitious and diverse infrastructure projects - backed by the resources, innovation, and global reach of a Tier 1 firm. Your involvement could span early advisory, costing, feasibility studies, development approvals, impact assessments, and supporting financial investment decisions for major developments such as:
- Datacentres: Delivering resilient, high-capacity power systems for critical digital infrastructure.
- Mining & Industrial: Integrating renewables and advanced grid solutions to decarbonise energy-intensive operations.
- Commercial & Ports: Powering large commercial precincts and enabling resilient, electrified port operations.
- Rail & Intermodal: Supporting electrified rail networks and intermodal logistics hubs.
- Electric Heavy Vehicle Charging (EHVC): Enabling high-power charging networks for heavy transport.
- Hydrogen Projects: Providing grid connection, renewable integration, and energy systems support for green hydrogen hubs and production facilities.
- Solar, BESS, and Pumped Hydro: Supporting the connection, optimisation, and operation of large-scale renewable generation and storage projects.
- Microgrids and Remote Power Systems: Designing hybrid, resilient energy solutions for regional and industrial communities.
- Offshore Wind and HVDC Converter Stations: Enabling next-generation transmission systems to deliver clean energy at scale.
- Synchronous Condensers, STATCOMs & Power Quality Systems: Delivering studies and designs that enhance system strength, inertia, voltage control, harmonic performance, and overall grid stability.
This role offers the best of both worlds: the agility and influence of a small, growing team combined with the reach, diversity, and technical excellence of a global leader.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in grid connection projects (preferably in Australia), with strong knowledge of R0, R1, and R2 connection studies.
- Deep understanding of TNSP, DNSP, and AEMO requirements and proficiency in PSSE, PSCAD, DIgSILENT, EMTP-RV.
- Motivated to build, lead, and mentor a team while setting technical direction and standards.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills with a collaborative mindset.
- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical or Power Engineering; Chartered, RPEQ, or RPEV status desirable.
- Interest or experience in hydrogen, datacentres, ports, HVDC systems, renewable integration, or large-scale infrastructure highly regarded.
