Duties: 
  • Work collaboratively, cooperatively and effectively with the people in care both within the hospital and community settings.
  • Assess vocational rehabilitative potential of clients, developing individual vocational goals and rehabilitation plans.
  • Develop and implement rehabilitation programs to meet clients’ needs, including counselling, instructing and assisting with job search techniques.
  • Assist clients with job readiness through resume writing, interview techniques, job coaching, job searches etc.
  • Assess work placements, client’s progress and performance.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge and practice of program policies, procedures, applicable legislation, and mental health practices.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of consumer work initiatives
  • Liaise with community partners to provide both educational and vocational opportunities for clients.
  • Provide necessary activities of daily living support within the framework of the FACTT model based on client need.
  • Provide on-call services on a rotational basis, available for weekends and evenings on a rotational basis.
  • Work in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
  • Maintain work load measurement and data collection as required and input into the workload measurement system on a regular basis.
  • Other duties may reasonably be assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of a post secondary degree or diploma in Social Sciences.
  • Eligible for registration with VRA. 
  • Ability to perform full Vocational Counsellor functions.
  • Experience working with individuals with a Dual Diagnosis.
  • Experience working with clients with a mental illness.
  • Access to an reliable vehicle and valid G driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation theory and practice, various treatment modalities and related techniques such as adult learning principles, clinical case management, job analysis, selective placement etc.
  • Ability to interpret relevant legislation and procedures ie. Human Resource Development Canada procedures to identify eligibility for funding.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, and Substitute Decision Act
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression.  Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
