Systems Administrator I: $6,529 - $9,187 monthly
Systems Administrator II: $7,198 - $10,128 monthly
The City of Redding is accepting applications for the position of Systems Administrator in the Information Technology Department.
The ideal candidate will implement and maintain the Windows Server infrastructure, including hardware, operating systems, hypervisors, and utility software; assist application and vendor personnel with new features; provide daily supervision of operations staff; and support the technical development and maintenance of security systems and operations. The candidate will have knowledge of VMware, Hyper-V, and Windows operation and functions, as well as experience with PowerShell and other scripting tools. Additionally, they will possess a solid understanding of network and communications principles.Position Duties

- Function in a capacity in overseeing day-to-day operations.
- Supervise and maintain system security.
- Resolve user problems.
- Establish communication links between remote devices and other systems.
- Design/maintain back-up/recovery procedures.
- Monitor system performance.
- Perform systems programming.
- Develop, assign, and assist in Help Desk training.
- Plan, coordinate, assign and oversee the work of lower level staff. Provide input on employee performance reviews. Provide support for staff during leaves, i.e., vacation, sick, etc., and during heavy or peak workloads.

Systems Administrator II
- Function in a lead capacity in overseeing day-to-day operations.
- Supervise and maintain system security.
- Resolve user problems.
- Establish communication links between remote devices and other systems.
- Design, develop, documentation and maintain backup and restoration procedures
- Monitor system performance.
- Perform server, application tuning and programming
- Develop, assign, and assist in Help Desk training.
- Plan, coordinate, assign and oversee the work of lower level staff. Provide input on employee performance reviews. Provide support for staff during leaves, i.e., vacation, sick, etc., and during heavy or peak workloads.
- Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability, Trains staff on how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired.
- Manages the data center and computer systems including hardware, software and equipment.
- Provides guidelines and methods for installation and management of computer operating systems, disk arrays, tape libraries and other components.
- Maintain security systems from unauthorized use and user abuse.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the job classification.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of VMWare and Windows operation and functions
- Knowledge of communications principles
- Knowledge of hardware configuration
- Knowledge of system performance characteristics
- Knowledge of system security
- Knowledge of effective supervisory principles and practices
- Knowledge of effective customer service skills and techniques
- Ability to interact effectively with the public and employees
- Ability to perform system/operations programming and to support operations in the absence of staff
- Ability to plan, coordinate, assign and oversee the work of others
- Ability to maintain appropriate records
- Ability to prepare reports
- Ability to effectively communicate with users and technical staff
Education, Experience and Special Requirements:
- Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
- Typical education would include a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent in Computer Science, or equivalent combination of college and work experience.
- Typical experience would include 4-5 years relevant experience in Information Systems, 1-2 years of which shall have been in a lead capacity.
- Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
- This position will require some work to be performed after normal working hours and is subject to being on call to solve system problems, provide back-up for staff, etc.

- Passing of a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test
Veteran's Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating "Honorable Discharge" from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
