Emerald Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a skillful Conformal Coater to join its Brea, CA team! Conformal Coating Operators perform masking, epoxying, and other fine motor skills to printed circuit boards to ensure quality is on par with customer specifications. Qualified candidates must have a strong attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, precise movements, and skilled hand-tool usage to manipulate small objects or perform delicate tasks with hands and fingers. This position frequently is required to sit while applying conformal coating to areas of the printed circuit boards that the machines cannot cover or spray. To maintain the health and safety of our team and customers, face masks must be worn while working on-site. This aligns with our company's overall health and safety program as there is regular exposure to coating materials: parylene, humiseal, acrylics, urethanes, epoxies, etc.

Responsibilities of Conformal Coating:

  • Coating Application: Apply conformal coatings to printed circuit boards using manual or automated methods, ensuring proper coverage and adhesion.
  • Masking and Taping: Mask off areas of the PCB that should not be coated to protect components and connections.
  • Inspection and Touch-Up: Inspect coated assemblies for defects, ensuring uniformity, absence of foreign materials, and complete cure. Perform manual touch-ups to fix missed areas.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate dispensing, spraying, or other specialized coating equipment.
  • Material Handling: Safely handle and pour liquid chemicals used in the coating process.
  • Documentation and Quality Control: Read and understand work instructions, process documentation, and safety guidelines, including Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). 
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, lift and move items (e.g., 25-40 lbs. totes), and perform repetitive tasks.

Qualifications of Conformal Coating:

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED).  
  • Experience in an electronics manufacturing environment with electronic components and dispensing equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards. IPC-610 and/or J-STD-001 Certification is preferred. 
  • The ability to make coordinated and precise hand and finger movements to grasp and manipulate objects, requiring a combination of muscular, skeletal, and neurological functions. 
  • Keen attention to detail. Excellent manual dexterity, visual acuity, and the ability to work with small tools and a microscope.  
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and physical ability to handle small parts and chemicals are important.  
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents, work instructions, and follow safety protocols.
