Job Summary:  The Mental Health Counselor provides mental health services to families in Vision House’s transitional housing program, addressing the unique challenges of those experiencing homelessness. This role works as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess client mental health needs, provide counseling, and connect families with community resources. The Mental Health Counselor supports individuals and families through individual, group, and family therapy sessions, helping them heal from trauma and build a foundation for long-term stability.

HOURS:              40 hours per week, hourly, Monday-Friday based on program needs

LOCATION:        Shoreline, WA


Our new Mental Health Counselor will enjoy the following benefits:

As a Mental Health Counselor, you will: 

  • Conduct mental health assessments and provide therapeutic services to adults and children within the Vision House program. 
  • Collaborate with the Family Program team to identify and address the mental health needs of residents. 
  • Provide counseling through individual, family, or group sessions, as well as provide resources and support during escalated mental health situations. 
  • Facilitate classes as needed to help build skills and address the emotional well-being of residents.
  • Facilitate support groups as needed to help build skills address the emotional well-being of residents.
  • Develop curriculum as needed for classes.
  • Document therapy sessions, notes, and attendance in Vision House’s data collection systems. 
  • Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with external agencies providing services for residents.
  • Advocate for residents’ access to community resources and services, ensuring that residents’ needs are met and rights maintained; consult and collaborate with community providers to ensure continuity of care. 
  • Participate in weekly case staffing meetings to collaborate with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Meet weekly with direct supervisor and regularly with site manager as needed.
  • Assist team with case consultations.
  • Attend wrap/support meetings with participants/residents and program staff.
  • Provide program support and consultation for Diversion staff team.
  • Facilitate training for staff as needed. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Mental Health Counselor candidates should have the following qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences field, with active licensure (LMFT, LMFTA, LMHC, or LMHCA).
  • Knowledge and practice of therapeutic practices, such as EMDR, Lifespan Integration or similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply the principals of trauma-informed care.
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with community mental health resources and able to help residents access those services.
  • Experience working with children, families, and individuals that have experienced trauma.
  • Knowledge of the effects of trauma, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Ability  to adapt quickly to various situations.
  • Ability to pass background check.
  • Must be an active follower of Jesus Christ and have ability to sign our Statement of Faith.
