Job Functions:
Responsible for maintenance activities as assigned, such as carpentry, electric, plumbing, materials handling, painting and works with volunteers regularly to coordinate and manage tent parking needs.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Responsible for maintaining and repairing tent interior locations such as kids zone, hospitality, volunteer services, donor lane and all other tent departments.
- Support other teams with loading and unloading and materials handling.
- Lead volunteers to coordinate and manage tent parking.
- Will perform various mechanical tasks; troubleshooting, repairing and enhancing systems and subsystems in accordance with the mission statement of Metropolitan Ministries.
- Operate tools associated with trades: drills, saws, forklift, pallet jacks and various other tools.
- Configure, install, repair and maintain manual and electric systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair shelving systems, temporary wall systems, canvas tents, tables, chairs, podiums, parking aids, way finding and other signs and banners.
- Be willing and able to perform other required maintenance tasks including but not limited to:
- Carpentry
- Building structure, floor repairs and installation
- Wall preparations and covering; doors,
- Warehousing needs
- Locate and retrieve various supplies, parts, and building materials as needed to complete assigned projects.
- Support the Holiday Center events as needed
- Support the team in other tasks as assigned. Meet personal goals and actively contribute to the achievement of team and organizational targets/goals for tent operations.
- Demonstrate a passion for the mission, vision, and guiding values of Metropolitan Ministries, in a cooperative manner within the organization to achieve the organization’s goals.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
Knowledge and experience in mechanical systems, tools associated with trade and operating hand held power tools
Skills Requirements:
This position requires the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary framework Must be able to communicate effectively in English, orally as well as in writing. Must demonstrate a heart for the ministry of serving poor and homeless families. The position requires a degree of maturity, sensitivity to issues of faith, cross cultural and diversity issues, and the social skill to handle job-related matters in a professional and diplomatic manner.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to tolerate outdoor temperatures consistent with Florida climate and endure prolonged standing/walking/bending/stooping and stretching. Must be able to tolerate various temperatures consistent with outside seasonal changes and with refrigeration/freezer cold storage units. Must be able to work in areas with low or no lighting. Must be able to climb ladders and stairs regularly. Must be able to calculate mathematical equations as needed for maintenance purposes. Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
Other:
Must demonstrate legal authorization to work in the United States. Must pass required background pre-employment screening. Must adhere to the policies and procedures of the ministry; Must be able to work flexible schedules during the holiday season (October-December) and special events.
