The MLS recognizes appropriate and inappropriate selection of lab tests and correlates lab results to patients clinical condition. %26nbsp;S/he possess scientific knowledge to evaluate quality control, instrument, and result data. %26nbsp;Other duties include: responsibility for documentation of all activities, monitoring supplies; compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements related to safety and laboratory testing; face to face and telephone customer service; computer data entry and retrieval; workplace cleanliness and maintenance. May oversee QA activities, method evaluation, teaching, point-of-care testing, and new procedure implementation. May research new methods.%3C/div%3E%3Cdiv%3E%3Cbr%3E%3Cstrong%3EEssential Responsibilities:%3C/strong%3E%3C/div%3E%3Cul style=%22margin-bottom:0;margin-left:1px;margin-top:0;%22%3E%3Cli%3ETesting and Processing: %26nbsp;Performs waived, moderate, and high complexity testing according to KPWA Laboratory procedures and encompassing pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases. %26nbsp;Performs quality control and quality assurance activities, maintenance, and troubleshooting. %26nbsp;%26nbsp;Performs specimen processing.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EComputer Data Entry %26amp; Retrieval: %26nbsp;Accessions specimens, enters results, retrieves information.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3ETechnical Resource: %26nbsp;Resolves problems and answers technical questions. Serves as a frontline resource to the laboratorys customers. %26nbsp;Assists in the review and updating of laboratory procedure manuals.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EOther duties: %26nbsp;Participates in/leads Performance Improvement activities. Oversees test method evaluations, validations and implementation. May oversee lab assistants %26amp; non-registered techs to assure appropriate pre-analytic specimen preparation and moderate or waived testing performance. Oversee/teaches students and employees.%3C/li%3E%3C/ul%3E
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum one (1) year of recent clinical laboratory experience as a MLS or recent graduation from a MLS/CLS (Clinical Lab Scientist) Program.
Education
- Bachelors degree.
License, Certification, Registration
- Medical Lab Scientist Certificate within 6 months of hire OR Clinical Lab Scientist Certificate within 6 months of hire OR Medical Technologist Certificate within 6 months of hire
- Basic Life Support within 3 months of hire
Additional Requirements:
- Experience to meet national certification exam requirements at the MLS level or meets qualifications in CLIA 493.1491.
- Basic computer skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer service and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of generalist experience as a MLS/MT.
- Successful completion of an accredited MLS/MT Program.
- Certified as MLS/MT by date of hire/transfer.
