Position Overview
The Cost & Financial Analyst will play a critical role in supporting operational and financial performance by delivering accurate cost analysis, variance reporting, and financial insights. This position will be responsible for monitoring standard costs, analyzing manufacturing and inventory variances, and preparing financial reports that support decision-making. The role requires strong analytical skills, ERP system knowledge, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in operations, supply chain, and management.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Accounting & Analysis
- Maintain and update the standard cost system in ERP (Oracle, SAP, JD Edwards, Sage X3, or equivalent).
- Prepare and analyze manufacturing variances (materials, labor, and overhead) and absorption reports.
- Review and reconcile inventory adjustments, obsolescence reserves, and slow-moving inventory.
- Ensure cost accounting policies and controls are applied consistently.
- Support annual cost roll updates and ensure alignment with financial reporting.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Prepare monthly budget vs. actual variance reports with commentary for management.
- Assist in preparing forecasts, budgets, and long-term financial models.
- Perform contribution margin and product profitability analysis.
- Support cash flow analysis and working capital reporting.
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis for operational initiatives, capital projects, and cost savings.
Reporting & Controls
- Prepare journal entries and ensure accuracy of cost-related postings during month-end close.
- Develop management reports on KPIs (inventory turns, absorption, gross margin, etc.).
- Partner with auditors to support costing and inventory-related audit requests.
- Provide financial insights to drive decision-making and improve operational efficiency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with supply chain, operations, and production teams to validate data and resolve discrepancies.
- Partner with management on cost savings initiatives and business case analysis.
- Act as a financial advisor to operations by providing clear, actionable analysis.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in cost accounting and financial analysis within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory accounting.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, JD Edwards, Sage X3, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
