About the Department
We are seeking a part-time Program Assistant for Special Populations to support recreational and therapeutic programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities. This role involves assisting with the delivery of inclusive, community-based activities that promote social engagement, life skills, and physical wellness.
In this part-time role, you will assist in planning and delivering inclusive recreation programs that involve physical movement and recreational activities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The position involves transporting participants to local and out-of-town events using a 15-passenger vehicle. The part-time Program Assistant for Special Populations will maintain regular communication with the Special Populations Coordinator to coordinate programming, supplies, and participant needs. The role also includes promoting programs and volunteer opportunities through outreach efforts like email, social media, and community events. Additionally, you will serve as a chaperone and assist with supervision during off-site activities and occasional overnight trips as need. Support for weekly programs such as ClubRec—which fosters socialization, life skills, and recreational experiences—is also part of the position.
Evening and weekend availability, as well as occasional irregular hours, are required. The ideal candidate is reliable, enthusiastic about inclusive recreation, and comfortable working in a dynamic, people-focused environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or GED; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Other Qualifications
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is highly preferred.
