Role Highlights
As Project Director, you will manage a range of major projects across all aspects of the project lifecycle, from conception through to execution. The estimated budgets of projects will vary from $100 million capital to over $1 billion.
This is a key leadership role and will have overall accountability for the management and delivery of projects, including developing and leading the definition of study phases for construction-ready investment decisions, through to the procurement and delivery of physical assets and construction projects for Fremantle Ports.
In this diverse, hands-on role, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lead large multidisciplinary project teams formed from internal and external personnel that make up the owner’s project team.
Successfully deliver the agreed program of projects to the defined outcomes, taking ownership of the full life cycle of each project in accordance with all applicable requirements.
Establish a best practice approach to front end engineering development and study management for the business, including scope, schedules, cost estimation, resources, constructability and technical specification.
Lead procurement processes to ensure project objectives and relevant statutory requirements and standards are met.
Lead project stakeholder engagement to ensure that requirements, goals, project scopes and deliverables are valid, well understood and agreed.
Ensure any necessary approvals and regulatory processes are executed.
Ensure any project construction and site activities are managed safely, in accordance with Fremantle Port’s safety procedures.
What Makes You a Great Fit
Your ability to lead high performing teams and to develop a clear vision for a project will enable you to successfully manage capital investment projects on time, within budget and to scope. Your excellent communication skills and strong commercial acumen demonstrate your ability to deliver long term value for money through project and contract management.
You’ll also bring:
10+ years of proven high-level experience in project management with broad exposure to all key elements of the project management life cycle.
Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team including engineering, site supervision and other technical skillsets.
A proven safety record and safety approach.
Experience in successfully leading major projects and programs on schedule, on budget and within scope (particularly as part of an operating business).
Experience in contract management, including superintendency experience in AS4000 and bespoke construction and works contracts.
Experience in engineering design in a heavy industry, major infrastructure or bulk materials handling setting.
Experience delivering projects in a brownfield materials handling setting are preferred but not essential
Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation), including the ability to explain project and contract management related matters to business leaders.

The Port of Fremantle is a vital transport hub, supporting Western Australia's economic growth by facilitating more than $45 billion of trade in FY2023-24. Fremantle Ports acts as both a landlord, and the operator of its own import and export facilities in Kwinana.
The Port of Fremantle operates through two harbours. The Inner Harbour at Fremantle handles container trade, livestock exports, motor vehicle imports, other general cargo trades, cruise ships and visiting naval vessels. The Outer Harbour, about 22km to the south at Kwinana, is one of Australia’s major bulk cargo ports handling grain, petroleum, liquid petroleum gas, alumina, mineral sands, fertilisers, coal, sulphur, iron ore and other bulk commodities.
