Scope:
The Weigh-Up Operator is responsible for accurately weighing, labeling, and staging raw materials required for production. This individual supports material availability and inventory accuracy while ensuring all handling follows food safety, quality, and allergen control standards. The Weigh-Up Operator maintains an organized and efficient work environment within the weigh-up room and rack locations.
Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:
- Promotes safety and conducts him/herself in accordance with all safety guidelines at all times
- Accurately weighs and stages raw materials for production based on batch card instructions
- Verifies materials match specifications (SKU, lot number, description, and quantity)
- Clearly labels all materials with required information to ensure traceability
- Performs system transactions including bin transfers, and material returns
- Follows proper handling procedures for partial containers and return-to-inventory materials
- Maintains clean, organized weigh-up stations and designated rack locations using 5S principles
- Follows all allergen handling, GMP, SQF, and HACCP protocols without deviation
- Communicates material discrepancies or damaged items to the Warehouse Supervisor promptly
- Operates floor and bench scales, pallet jacks, RF scanners, and other tools as required
- Participates in internal audits, walkthroughs, and ongoing room improvement efforts
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in labeling, weighing, and tracking materials
- Experience in warehouse, production, or food manufacturing environments preferred
- Familiarity with warehouse scanning tools or WMS systems is a plus
- Strong communication and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Willingness to adapt in a fast-paced environment and follow set procedures
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to perform the physical functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Extended standing and walking required throughout the shift
- Must be able to work extended hours, including daily overtime and occasional weekends
- Must possess visual acuity to verify labels, lot numbers, and documentation
