Reporting to the Director, Indigenous and Circumpolar Affairs, the Claims Implementation Manager is responsible for monitoring and managing the implementation of the Government of Nunavut (GN) obligations created by the Nunavut Agreement (NA) and any other land claim agreements and others that may arise, in accordance with their respective Implementation Plans. This includes seeking mandates and support from the Director, the Associate Deputy Minister and Minister, as well as planning and organizing support functions necessary to ensure the interests and constitutional authorities of the Government of Nunavut are fully taken into account
Responsibilities
In advancing the mandate of the Department, the incumbent takes the lead role in managing and coordinating the development of GN negotiating positions and policies with other departments, agencies and governments. As required, supports, coordinates and/or represents the GN in negotiations, meetings and communicates on these policies and positions with national, provincial, municipal and other aboriginal and interest groups. The incumbent must draw on the technical resources of other GN departments and agencies to carry out these objectives as well as providing them with technical support and expertise on claims implementation.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a recognized undergraduate degree in political science, law or related field along with three (3) years of work experience in public policy, law or business administration.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

As this is a 3-year term position until current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.
