About the role:
We’re seeking a Entrepreneur (Adjacencies) to identify, validate, and scale new digital business models that sit adjacent to Transurban’s core tolling and mobility services.
You’ll join an innovative team, who expands Transurban’s platform based growth strategy and captures emerging value pools that align with our long term vision of becoming a technology powered mobility leader.
As our Entrepreneur (Adjacencies), you’ll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities. It’s meaningful, challenging and exciting work.
Day-to-day, you will:
Lead the identification and validation new venture opportunities by analyzing market signals, customer needs, and emerging technologies.
Conduct primary research and structured experimentation to assess product-market fit and inform scalable business models.
Develop and iterate lean business models and go-to-market strategies, balancing innovation with financial viability.
Lead rapid prototyping, pilot programs, and Minimum Viable Product (MVP) development, driving ventures toward commercial integration or spin-out.
Prepare investment cases and secure funding through internal governance processes.
Build strategic partnerships with startups, tech providers, and adjacent industry leaders to accelerate innovation.
Leverage external funding sources such as grants and co-investments to reduce venture risk.
Collaborate across teams and represent the organization in innovation forums, incubators, and portfolio reviews.
Work closely with other entrepreneurs and the New Ventures team to share insights and coordinate efforts.
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferable skills and experiences, including:
5+ years experience in venture building, innovation leadership, product management, public private partnerships, or transformation programs.
Entrepreneurial mindset, with a proven ability to launch, scale, or transform new initiatives within startups, corporates, or the public sector.
Proven track record of identifying and acting on unmet needs to deliver creative, commercially viable, or policy aligned solutions, especially within government agencies, transportation authorities, or civic technology environments.
Skilled in lean startup, design thinking, policy prototyping, or other agile innovation methods especially as applied in regulated or complex stakeholder environments.
Demonstrated experience developing business cases, cost benefit analyses, or investment proposals that align with both commercial and policy objectives.
Strong stakeholder management and ecosystem collaboration skills, with experience navigating cross sector engagement.
Strategic thinking with a bias for action, capable of operating in ambiguous and evolving contexts.

We are open to considering candidates who either reside in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area, are within a reasonable commuting distance to Tysons Corner and Alexandria, VA and/or are willing to relocate at their own expense. Candidates who reside in the DMV area will be prioritized.
