Position Overview:
The Yard Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers containing corrugated finished goods and materials within the facility yard. This role ensures timely and accurate placement of trailers to support shipping, receiving, and production operations while maintaining compliance with all company safety policies and procedures.
Reports to: Shipping Supervisor
Position Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a yard truck/hostler to move trailers between dock doors, staging areas, and designated yard locations.
- Spot and position trailers for loading and unloading of corrugated finished goods.
- Inspect trailers for proper loading, securement, and overall condition before movement.
- Maintain an organized and efficient yard layout to support production and shipping schedules.
- Communicate effectively with shipping, receiving, and production teams to ensure workflow efficiency.
- Complete required yard movement logs and trailer tracking documentation accurately and on time.
- Perform pre- and post-shift inspections of equipment, including checking oil, water, tires, and lights.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs immediately.
- Follow all safety guidelines, including the use of PPE and adherence to traffic flow and speed limits in the yard.
- Assist with general housekeeping in yard and dock areas.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education:
Highschool Diploma or Equivalent
Certifications:
CDL Class A
Experience:
2+ plus years as CDL Driver and Yard Driver
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently sitting while operating yard truck.
- Occasional climbing in and out of tractor multiple times per shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions throughout the year.
