JOB SUMMARY:
The Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations and nursing staff at a 24-hour Behavioral Health Crisis Center operating under the CCBHC model. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed, and person-centered care to individuals experiencing mental health or substance use crises.
POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and maintain a safe environment for staff, consumers, and visitors.
- Develop recruitment and retention plans for nursing and nursing support staff in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Recruit, hire, oversight of training, and retain quality employees.
- Assess and improve staff performance; conduct competency reviews and annual evaluations.
- Provide regular supervision and ensure compliance with protocols and policies.
- Scheduling and efficient utilization of nursing staff. Tracking of all staff attendance and addressing any patterns/issues that are identified as non-compliant with policy.
- Oversight of all agency staff for coverage of the unit(s) with approval of the Program Administrator and Nursing Director. Evaluate each staffing request based on occupancy and acuity.
- Continually evaluate acuity and census to ensure staffing is adequate to control capacity to maximize coverage and provide rapid response in high volume times.
- Monitor quality of care and address identified issues.
- Collaborate with Medical Director and Director of Nursing on medical processes and protocols.
- Resolve ethical dilemmas and oversee staff discipline as needed.
- Utilize data (e.g., PowerBI) to identify and implement unit improvements.
- Serve as Administrator on Call for nursing staff as scheduled.
- Develop and maintain nursing policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and Oklahoma Board of Nursing regulations.
- Recommend and oversee staff in-service educational programs.
- Monitor staff development and training, including CPR and restraint/seclusion techniques.
- Oversee infection control and ensure universal precautions.
- Implement pharmaceutical and restraint policies and procedures.
- Function as nurse on unit as needed.
EDUCATION:
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) Preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of active licensure as a Registered Nurse with active working experience.
- 2+ years of supervisory experience required.
- Experience working with clients with mental illness and co-occurring disorders and/or substance abuse preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Deep understanding of psychiatric and behavioral health nursing, including mental health and substance use disorders.
- Knowledge of clinical protocols, federal/state regulations, and Oklahoma Board of Nursing requirements.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, infection control, and safety-sensitive job standards.
- Expertise in medication management and pharmaceutical policies.
- Understanding of quality improvement and data-driven approaches (e.g., PowerBI).
- Knowledge of staff development, adult learning principles, and competency assessment.
- Leadership and supervision skills for recruiting, training, mentoring, and evaluating nursing and nursing support staff.
- Crisis management and de-escalation skills for high-stress situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in clinical documentation and electronic health records.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities for issue resolution and process improvement.
- Ability to oversee, and/or deliver, staff training.
- Flexibility to adapt procedures to evolving guidelines and requirements.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
- Must be a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Oklahoma
