POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

Shipping & Receiving Clerk/Crossing Guard

 

 

Reports to: Chief Auxilary Officer

 

Purpose: The Shipping & Receiving and Crossing Guard will provide essential support to Camden County Schools by overseeing the receipt, storage, and delivery of USDA/Child Nutrition items and other district supplies, while also ensuring the safe movement of vehicles during school arrival and dismissal times. This position combines warehouse and logistics responsibilities with school safety duties to ensure smooth operations across the district.

 

Minimum Training and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification within six months of employment.
  • Willingness to complete Sheriff’s Department crossing guard/traffic control training
  • Prior experience in shipping/receiving, warehouse work, or traffic control preferred.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods of time.
  • Basic knowledge of stocking procedures, inventory rotation, and warehouse safety.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and traffic control procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills when working with staff, students, and the public.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities & Duties

 

Shipping & Receiving Duties:

  • Receive, inspect, and verify deliveries of USDA/Child Nutrition items and other school supplies.
  • Maintain accurate records of received and distributed items.
  • Deliver USDA food items and district supplies to schools using a district vehicle.
  • Stock shelves and storage areas in accordance with USDA/Child Nutrition requirements.
  • Rotate inventory to ensure first-in, first-out (FIFO) procedures are followed.
  • Safely operate warehouse equipment; obtain and maintain forklift certification.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the storage facility and loading areas.
  • Report damaged goods or discrepancies in shipments promptly to the supervisor.

Crossing Guard & Safety Duties:

  • Control traffic flow and assist students, staff, and visitors at designated intersections before and after school.
  • Participate in traffic control training with the Camden County Sheriff’s Department; implement procedures with fidelity.
  • Ensure pedestrian and vehicular safety at designated intersections before and after school.
  • Report unsafe conditions or concerns to appropriate school staff or law enforcement.

Additional Duties:

  • Assist with light maintenance tasks related to shipping/receiving areas as assigned.
  • Support emergency preparedness procedures as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Officer.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed both indoors (warehouse/storage areas) and outdoors (crosswalks/traffic control).
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions during crossing guard duties.
  • Frequent lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods of time.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Salary Grade: NC05 ($2600 - $4508 depending on experience and training)
