Elementary Paraprofessional Librarian

Willett Elementary School

 

Our library is at the center of our school and, as such, the library, media-center paraprofessional plays a central role in both our school’s reading culture and our student’s technological skill development. We are looking for an energetic, organized, welcoming, and engaging individual who is excited to take literacy, traditional and technological, to the next level at Willett.

 

Reports to: Principal

 

Anticipated Start: Immediate

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

     1. Responsible for five, 57-minute Library Media Center classes, everyday (grades K-4).

  1. Work with Technology Integration Specialist to structure a 57-minute period where students’ classroom learning is extended by engaging in independent reading time, a technology activity, read alouds, and/or by assisting students in the choosing of books, appropriate to their reading abilities. 
  2. Maintaining routines and expectations that support students' social-emotional, behavioral, and learning needs.
  3. Teaching students about how to use technology safely, appropriately, and effectively. For example, teaching students to log in to ChromeBooks, teaching students about internet safety, and integrating typing activities into lessons.
  4. Teaching students library skills, such as, where to find appropriate books and about “book care” (Grades K and 1)
  5. Maintaining an orderly and up-to-date inventory of library books. Work with building principal to maintain a well-stocked library.
  6. Assisting teachers with finding texts that support their learning objectives.

Skills:
     1. Ability to engage K-4 students in engaging learning experiences

  1. Ability to manage multiple priorities, concurrently (e.g., teaching, library maintenance, and school-based reading program).
  2. Ability to maintain an organized, user-friendly library and learning environment for students and staff.
