Job Overview:
The Special Education Teacher of students with severe disabilities will provide individualized instruction and support to students, ensuring they achieve their maximum potential in academic, social, and functional skills. This role involves creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and adapting instructional methods to meet diverse needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a severe disabilities special education teaching license preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Possession of SEI endorsement.
- Experience working with children and adolescents with moderate to severe disabilities in a school or clinical setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check.
Reports to: Building Principal
Work Year: 184 days (school year)
Salary/Benefits: Per the negotiated PAT contract
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs and goals.
- Adapt and modify curriculum to meet the requirements of students with severe disabilities, ensuring accessibility and engagement.
- Utilize positive behavioral interventions and support strategies to promote a safe and productive learning environment.
- Regularly assess and monitor student progress through formal and informal assessments; adjust instruction based on data collected.
- Work closely with special education staff, therapists, parents, and other professionals to coordinate services and support for students.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of students with severe disabilities within the school and community.

- Ability to work in a normal classroom, office and school building environment.
- Ability to move freely about the building to perform duties with staff.
- Ability to assist students with physical needs and mobility challenges.
- Capacity to engage in activities that may require lifting, bending, or other physical movements as needed.
- Ability to utilize computers and other administrative technologies appropriate to the position.
