DIRECTOR OF DATA STRATEGY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Position Summary:
The Director of Data Strategy and Accountability will support Norwalk Public Schools in data collection, analysis, state assessments, and accountability. This role provides strategic, data-driven guidance to organizational and school leadership. The Director will also support the implementation of the Portrait of a Graduate initiative by developing a structured framework and actively seeking and incorporating feedback from key stakeholders to support student success.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
Instructional and Program Management:- Verify school and district data/calculations reported to the State for accountability.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal testing requirements.
- Support MLL and SpEd staff in the selection and reporting of accommodations and supports for state testing.
- Maintain a balanced assessment system by preparing an annual calendar that incorporates both state assessments and districtwide benchmarks.
- Provide data analysis and reports to key stakeholders, including but not limited to Curriculum Leadership, Principals, and the Board of Education.
- Support the development of district performance targets by proposing metrics and reasonable targets for growth.
- Advise district leadership on data trends and their implications for student achievement.
Staff Development: - Plan and facilitate professional development on interpreting test results and assessment literacy.
- Train school leaders on state assessment requirements, emphasizing test security and accessibility.
- Build capacity in school leaders to effectively utilize assessment results and analysis to inform instructional decisions.
Stakeholder Collaboration- Provide data and analysis to support grant applications, research partnerships, and district initiatives.
- Review research proposals submitted to the district and provide data access when applicable.
- Collaborate with district and school leaders to align data-driven strategies with organizational goals.
Portrait of a Graduate (PoG): - Support the implementation and refinement of the PoG framework, ensuring alignment with district goals and priorities.
- Plan and facilitate professional development regarding the PoG to build staff and leader capacity.
- Facilitate ongoing stakeholder engagement and feedback cycles with diverse groups (students, families, educators, community partners) to refine the initiative.
- Monitor and report on the impact of PoG implementation through data analysis.
- Collaborate with communications, curriculum, and leadership teams to promote coherence and visibility of PoG work.
Program Evaluation and Stakeholder Engagement - Use quantitative and qualitative methods to evaluate the impact of educational programs and initiatives (e.g., MSK/MBK), develop evaluation strategies, design studies, and inform implementation.
- Communicate actionable results to a variety of stakeholders and audiences.
Other Duties - Contribute to cross-departmental initiatives by offering support in data analysis and interpretation.
- Support the gifted and talented identification process, including coordination of student testing and overseeing student share meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by district leadership.
Qualifications: - Master’s degree (doctorate preferred) in education, educational statistics, or a related field.
- Prior experience in data analysis and accountability.
- Knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements of state and federal accountability and state assessment.
- Broad knowledge of modern research-based instructional techniques and teaching methods, curriculum development, program implementation and assessment processes.
- Prior experience working with a student information system like PowerSchool
- Proficiency in SQL.
- Prior experience using Excel, R, Python, etc. for data analysis.
- Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
Days: Monday – Friday (40 hours per week)

Salary: Follows ESG salary schedule
Work Year: 12 Months/52 weeks
