Mountain Cement Company, a subsidiary of Eagle Materials, is seeking a qualified Quality Control Tech (Mix Chemist) is responsible for sampling, testing, and quality control of all cement products while complying with all applicable mining regulations and/or Mountain Cement Company policies at all times.  Mix Chemists report to the Chief Chemist or his designee. When the Chief Chemist or his designee is not present, the Mix Chemist reports to the on-shift Production Supervisor. Employees who are classified as Mix Chemists must meet the following basic qualifications:

  1. Have a knowledge and understanding of product flow and plant operations.
  2. Have reliable attendance and safety records.
  3. Be able to work without constant supervision.
  4. Must have some mechanical, electrical, and basic mathematical knowledge.
  5. The ability to use a computer.
  6. Be able to give and take directions.

Responsibilities:  The responsibilities of a Mix Chemist include, but are not limited to:

 

Safety inspections of all working areas in the laboratory and at all sampling locations shall be performed a minimum of once per shift as required by federal mining regulations. Additional inspections may be required as conditions warrant (i.e., changing weather conditions, operation of mechanical equipment changes, etc.).

    1. Workplace examinations must be performed to ensure that the employee and his fellow workers have a safe place to work. Workplace examinations must be performed completely; cursory inspections are not adequate.
    2. The Mix Chemist is responsible for addressing and taking corrective actions when capable.
    3. If the employee is not capable of repairing an identified deficiency, the employee’s supervisor should be informed immediately so that MCC can initiate action to correct the deficient condition.
    4. Performance of corrective actions shall be conducted in compliance with all applicable federal/state regulations and company policies at all times.

     

    The Mix Chemist is responsible for performing a complete inspection of assigned work areas to check for any operational and/or mechanical problems with equipment. All identified problems must be reported to the on-shift Production Supervisor and/or Chief Chemist. Minor mechanical repairs are to be performed by the Mix Chemist if capable.  The MCC supervisor contacted will determine the scope of work and decide if assistance from other departments is required.

    Examples of minor repairs include:

    1. Replacement of broken or missing bolts, screws, hoses and pipe fittings.
    2. Repairs to sampling doors, etc.

       

      The Mix Chemist gathers samples and performs tests following MCC protocols to determine and ensure a quality product is being produced at all times. The employee is responsible for communicating the results of tests to the Control Room Operator, Shift Supervisor and/or Chief Chemist so that necessary changes can be made.

       

      Controls the raw meal proportioning to achieve targets set by the Chief Chemist.

       

      Housekeeping is a responsibility of all Mix Chemists. Clean up of the assigned work areas by the employee are to be performed daily to remove slip/trip/fall hazards.

      1. Clean-up activities are to be performed daily and not left for other MCC personnel. Major spills may require the assistance of employees from other departments.  Determination of need for housekeeping assistance will be made by the Chief Chemist or Production Supervisor.
      2. Performance of housekeeping activities should be consistent between all personnel.

       

      Perform any task assigned by an MCC supervisor.
