JOB SUMMARY:
The English Department at Adelphi University invites qualified candidates to apply for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position in Creative Writing to begin in mid-August 2026.
Adelphi is reviewing the recent governmental changes to the H1B process and is encouraging all qualified candidates to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach a multi-genre curriculum to a diverse student population, both undergraduate and graduate. For undergraduates, offer creative writing workshops and literature courses in person. For graduate students, offer workshops and related courses in our new low-residency MFA program.
Advise and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students.
Provide service to school, university, and community.
Continue publishing creative work in appropriate outlets.
Collaborate with the Chair and faculty of the English department for program administration and program enhancements.
Aid in student recruitment and retention efforts in collaboration with the University.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A terminal degree and experience teaching at the university level is required.
Experience teaching in a low-residency program is desired.
Preference will be given to creative nonfiction writers, with a secondary specialty in fiction, although all genres will be considered.
The successful candidate will be a published writer, with at least one published book.

SALARY INFORMATION:
In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $82,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.
