Since entering the USA in 2018, Brickworks have acquired Sioux City Brick, Redland Brick and the distribution business of Southfield Corporation in Illinois and Indiana (Illinois Brick, Indiana Brick). The combined North American business now has more than 1,000 employees, operates across forty locations, including 8 brick plants, 25 masonry supply center locations and 3 Design Studios.
Basic Function: Brickworks is seeking a results-driven Buyer – Freight & MRO Categories to join our Strategic Sourcing & Procurement team. This role will manage sourcing, negotiations, and supplier relationships across both freight and MRO (equipment, spare parts, consumables, and services). You will support sourcing initiatives, execute procurement strategies, ensure cost competitiveness, improve service levels, and reduce supply chain risks. Reporting to the Strategic Sourcing & Procurement Manager, you will play a key role in category initiatives, market and supplier research, and aligning procurement activities with company objectives.
Duties:
Strategic Sourcing & Category Support
- Conduct spend analysis for freight and MRO categories to identify trends, cost drivers, and opportunities for consolidation.
- Research freight markets (LTL, FTL, parcel, etc.) and MRO suppliers (parts, consumables, services) to benchmark costs and support sourcing decisions.
- Collaborate with plants, operations, and procurement teams to capture category requirements.
- Support the development and execution of sourcing strategies for both freight and MRO.
- Contribute to initiatives that deliver cost savings, improve service, and reduce supply chain risk.
Supplier Management & Negotiation
- Prepare and evaluate RFQs and RFPs for freight services and MRO goods/services.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and service agreements with carriers, 3PLs, and MRO suppliers.
- Participate in supplier selection, onboarding, and performance evaluations.
- Maintain supplier and carrier records, driving continuous improvement in cost, quality, and service performance.
Operational Procurement & Compliance
- Support day-to-day procurement activities, including spot freight quotes, MRO requisitions, and supplier communications.
- Track and manage contracts, renewals, and compliance with company policies for both categories.
- Work with internal teams to forecast freight volumes and MRO demand, ensuring availability and budget alignment.
- Identify process improvement opportunities such as freight consolidation, mode shifting, supplier consolidation, and inventory optimization.
Performance Tracking & Reporting
- Track supplier and carrier performance metrics (cost, quality, delivery, on-time performance, claims).
- Assist in preparing dashboards and reports for management review across freight and MRO.
- Use data insights to recommend improvements in routing, lane mix, supplier utilization, and sourcing strategies.

Education and experience requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or other related field; professional procurement certifications (e.g., CPSM, CIPS) are advantageous
- 3+ years of procurement, sourcing, or supply chain experience, ideally in freight and/or MRO categories.
- Knowledge of sourcing processes (RFx, carrier selection, contract management).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in Excel and procurement/ERP. Experience with TMS (Transportation Management System) tools a plus
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build supplier and stakeholder relationships
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams
- Experience in manufacturing, construction, or heavy industry is advantageous but not essential

For this position, the expected salary range is $70,000 – $85,000 annually, based on factors such as experience, skill set, and geographic location. This range reflects our commitment to fair and competitive compensation, informed by market benchmarks and internal equity.
Final compensation will be determined through a thoughtful hiring process that considers each candidate’s unique qualifications and fit for the role.
