Overview:

The Manager of Insurance and Risk plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization’s people,
properties, and mission. This position oversees all aspects of our corporate insurance programs,
enterprise risk management initiatives, and safety strategies across a diverse portfolio of affordable
housing communities and development activities. Leveraging data analytics, the manager identifies
trends, predicts exposures, and drives actionable insights to reduce risk and improve operational
resilience. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities:

Insurance Program Oversight
• Manage daily processes surrounding all all insurance lines including property, casualty, general
liability, workers’ compensation, auto, umbrella and other policies
• Oversee annual renewals, broker relationships, and coverage negotiations to ensure cost-effective and
comprehensive protection
• Oversee claims reporting, investigation, and resolution in partnership with third-party administrators
and site teams.
• Act as the liaison between internal customers and external insurance and claims administration service
providers and internal customers.
• Track loss trends and develop strategies to reduce claim frequency and severity across the portfolio
• Maintain processes surrounding insurance certificates, policy documentation, and compliance records
for lenders, partners, and regulatory bodies
Data-Driven Risk Mitigation
• Utilize enterprise insurance and risk management software application(s).
• Employ dashboards and reporting tools to monitor claims activity, incident frequency, and safety
compliance across properties
• Use predictive analytics to identify high-risk activities, recurring loss patterns, and emerging
exposures
• Collaborate with asset management, property operations and finance to integrate risk data into broader
operational and financial models
• Present data-driven insights to senior leadership to inform strategic decisions and capital planning
Risk Management Strategy
• Support the development and implementation of enterprise risk management (ERM) practices tailored
to affordable housing operations
• Conduct enterprise risk assessments of property management, development, and corporate functions
• Collaborate with legal and functional teams to evaluate contractual risk and indemnification language
• Monitor regulatory changes and industry trends to ensure proactive risk mitigation
• Prepare risk dashboards and reports for senior leadership and board-level review

Safety & Loss Control
• Partner with property management, maintenance and development teams to implement safety
programs and training
• Analyze incident data to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, fair housing, and other relevant safety regulations
• Lead initiatives to reduce workplace injuries, tenant incidents, and property damage
• Conduct site audits and collaborate with regional teams to promote a culture of safety and
accountability

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Qualifications:
 Bachelor’s degree in risk management, Finance, Business, Data Analytics, or related field
5+ years of experience in insurance and risk management, preferably in real estate or property
management
Strong understanding of insurance markets, claims processes, and risk financing
Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, or other data visualization tools
Experience with incident tracking systems and claims analytics platforms
Familiarity with multi-family real estate operations and affordable housing programs is highly
desirable.
Must be able to work independently and collaboratively and have a passion for making an
impact in the organization.
A total team player with the ability to be flexible, work in a faced paced environment and meet
deadlines.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Travel Requirement
Requires valid driver’s license, insured vehicle and ability to travel.
Occasional travel (10–20%) to properties, broker meetings, or industry events
Working Conditions:
This person will work in office areas.
Ability to work periodic flexible hours is required.
Ability to perform in a busy, multi-tasking work environment.
