Senior Director, Legal & Regulatory
We are seeking an experienced attorney with deep EU regulatory expertise to join our legal team as Senior Director, Legal & Regulatory. Based in the UK, this role will serve as senior regulatory counsel for our global business overseeing regulatory strategy and serving as our liaison with local regulators. Leveraging a background of EU regulatory expertise, this role will also serve as transaction counsel advising and negotiating complex technology transactions in key regulated verticals for our EMEA business. This position requires demonstrated expertise advising and implementing complex regulatory frameworks and managing complex B2B customer transactions in regulated verticals. You must be a results-oriented strategic thinker capable of making sound judgment even in the face of uncertainty and guiding the business with practical, actionable regulatory advice. The successful candidate thrives in a fast-paced high growth environment and is comfortable managing competing priorities. Critical experience includes top-notch problem solving skills balancing pragmatic solutions with appropriate legal and regulatory risk management. This position reports to the Chief Legal Officer.
Key Responsibilities;
Regulatory
Monitor regulatory landscape and apprise senior leadership of relevant regulations applicable to the business including US and EU regulations over data protection, critical infrastructure and digital transactions for cloud services providers.
Anticipate and proactively mitigate legal and regulatory risks across the company's global operations, providing actionable advice to senior leadership.
Oversee regulatory strategy and direct operational compliance with relevant regulations, advising cross-functional teams on risk management and mitigation, data governance, and data breach responses.
Advise and collaborate to implement regulatory strategy, policies, and training to enable compliance and operational teams to manage regulatory risk effectively.
Advise business in market expansion initiatives in regulated industries including effectively navigating customer regulatory and compliance requirements.
Oversee and manage effective use of external counsel in furtherance of legal, regulatory and compliance objectives.
Manage regulatory requirements and serve as a liaison with local regulatory authorities for data privacy, critical infrastructure and similar matters.
Other duties and assignments to support internal stakeholders and enhance and improve processes for execution of the company's strategies.
Transactional
Legal partner to EMEA business in transactions for customers in regulated industries, including financial services/fintech, healthcare/life sciences, telecommunications and transportation.
As transaction legal partner collaborate with business throughout sales process. Draft, review, and negotiate customer commercial transactions such as SaaS and platform cloud services, software licensing, distribution, MSSP, and other channel arrangements, and strategic partnerships.
Collaborate effectively cross-functionally with broader transaction teams on successful and timely deal execution.
Skills and Requirements
Qualified lawyer in an EU member state or the UK (active and in good standing) with 8+ years of post-qualification experience, preferably with a mix of law firm and in-house experience, practicing in a relevant regulated industry such as financial services/fintech, healthcare/life sciences, telecommunications or transportation.
Well versed with EU regulations over data protection, critical infrastructure and digital transactions applicable to cloud services providers, including the GDPR, CER, NIS2, DORA, the EU AI Act, and the EU Data Act.
Adept at monitoring the regulatory landscape, developing compliance posture and advising senior management of impact on business and operations in a timely fashion.
Demonstrated capability implementing complex regulatory frameworks in global business operations, including setting policy, advising process enhancements and training compliance and operational personnel.
Strong business judgment and the ability to provide pragmatic, business focused legal advice to both legal and non-legal audiences.
Exceptional drafting, negotiation and communication skills with proven track record of effectively managing multiple transactions and working with a sense of urgency to drive successful and timely closure of transactions.
Unquestioned ethics and professionalism. Highly team-oriented and collaborative, with demonstrated success leading regulatory teams and building strong relationships with stakeholders cross-functionally.
Written and verbal English fluency, with written and verbal fluency in at least one additional European language a plus.
