The SARA, Inc. High Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) is looking for a remarkably talented, motivated, and imaginative Mechanical Field Technician to support research and development activities and transition innovative technologies to the DoD, DoE, and their contractors in Colorado Springs, CO. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-standing programs and new programs supporting our customers. Our small group will allow the candidate to experience, contribute, and collaborate in a multidisciplinary nature from conception all the way through to operation.
The Mechanical Field Technician will have knowledge of carpentry, welding, machining, assembly, assistance in project-based work, etc. to our support rapid manufacturing and fabrication activities.
Core Responsibilities:
- Constructing, maintaining, and testing electrical and mechanical systems, components, equipment, etc.
- Test and modify electronic systems using measuring and diagnostic tools
- Document various procedures and designs
- Read specifications, research, resolve issues
- Provide assembly and install assistance in the lab and field
- Assist with preparing, conducting, and documenting mechanical tests
- Provide on-site customer service support for equipment maintenance
- Work as part of a team to accomplish project goals
- Interact with all levels of engineering staff and outside vendors
- Performing other duties and projects as assigned
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1-5 years’ experience assembling, setting up, and testing electronic systems in a laboratory and field test environment
- Operate a variety of machining equipment, mills, lathes, etc.
- Interpret and create engineering schematics and drawings
- Understand, remember, and communicate routine, and facts-based information
- Perform multiple tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality
- Organize, prioritize workload efficiently
- Maintain a valid driver’s license
- Operate forklifts, scissor lifts etc.
- Up to 25% travel annually
- Travel can last up to three weeks at a time
- Knowledge of MS Office applications
- Must be detail oriented
- Ability to research, learn and implement new skills
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
- Moderate physical effort, involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 50+ pounds
- Working environment may be indoor or outdoor, moderately loud at times, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated; moderate physical hazards may exist
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active DoD Top Secret Clearance
- Certifications: machining, welding, electrical, forklift, soldering
- Experience with commercial electrical installs, specifications, and code
- Basic electronic circuits
- Experience in many trades to accommodate a variety of engineers R&D efforts
- Material properties and compatibility
- Familiarity with safety precautions regarding high voltage and power
- CDL

Pay Range
Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $18 to $30 (hourly USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA’s total compensation package for employees. Positions are on-site, unless indicated otherwise.
