CLASS SUMMARY:

Required to install and maintain airfield and landside markings to remain compliant with FAR Part 139 and KYDOT specifications.  Assists management by providing suggested best practices for airfield and landside markings.  Required to operate gasoline and large diesel powered machinery in a safe and appropriate manner.  Other specific duties include heavy equipment maintenance, snow and ice removal, airfield signage and lighting, pavement repair and maintenance; year-round airfield maintenance, including garages, parking areas, and pavements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.

  • Ensure proper striping stock, tools and materials are available for striping maintenance.
  • Ensures management remains up to date on all striping projects, materials and inventory.
  • Performs plan reviews and makes revisions on proposed marking designs to ensure that they meet KCAB specifications and standards.
  • Train all Field staff on proper use of all marking equipment, supplies, materials and best practices. 
  • Maintain and service all paint equipment and tools to high standards.
  • Performs proper layout and measurement of all markings according to required specifications.
  • Research / stay abreast of current trends and best practices in the marking industry.
  • Maintains a high level of proficiency by serving as a subject matter expert for marking equipment, tools and materials. 
  • Utilizes a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document and track inventory
  • Performs snow and ice removal.
  • Cleans, maintains and secures all heavy equipment.
  • Assists in emergencies on CVG Airport property 24/7.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or GED and five years experience in a related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License Required (or ability to acquire Class A CDL within 6 months of hire date)
  • ASOS Basic and Advanced course
  • Airfield Marking Professional (AMP) certification within first year of the position.  Recertification every 3 years
  • Annual airfield marking training

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Marking/striping processes and operations
  • Strong FAR Part 139 knowledge
  • Customer service requirements for organization
  • Operation of gas and diesel powered equipment;
  • Personal protective equipment.
  • Work zone safety in traffic/roadways situations

  • Demonstrated skill in following verbal and written instruction;
  • Clearly and effectively  communicating both orally and in writing;
  • Establishing and maintaining effective, fair, cooperative, collaborative and respectful relationships with internal and external colleagues, peers, work teams and workgroups.

  • Demonstrated skill in maintaining a variety of maintenance records
  • Demonstrated skill in data entry

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. 

Heavy Work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
