Position: Contractual Home Visiting Registered Nurse (RN) 

Department: Maternal and Child Health 

Agency Contact: Director of Maternal Child Health 

Contract Rate: $60/hour 

Hours of Work:  

Contractors are expected to work non-traditional hours as needed to meet client needs for direct services, coordinated with the designated agency contact. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. 

Beginning in 2026, the estimated time commitment is approximately 10 hours per week, broken down as follows: 

  • 6–8 hours/week dedicated to in-home visits, which may occur during evenings or weekends to accommodate family schedules.
  • 1–2 hours/week for case staffing and coordination, which will take place during regular business hours.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: YWCA Kalamazoo is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and community-driven Registered Nurse (RN) to provide home-based maternal and infant health services through the WISH and MIHP programs. This role is essential in supporting families during pregnancy and early parenting, reducing disparities in birth outcomes, and promoting health equity across Kalamazoo County. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan. 
  2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in maternal child health, public health, or home visiting preferred. 
  3. MIHP certification or willingness to complete MIHP training upon hire. 
  4. Strong knowledge of perinatal health, infant development, and health disparities. 
  5. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. 
  6. Ability to work independently and travel throughout Kalamazoo County.
  7. Commitment to YWCA Kalamazoo’s mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Conduct home visits to pregnant individuals, postpartum parents, and infants enrolled in WISH and MIHP.
  2. Perform comprehensive health assessments, including maternal and infant physical health, psychosocial needs, and environmental safety. 
  3. Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with clients and interdisciplinary team members. 
  4. Provide education and counseling on prenatal care, breastfeeding, infant development, safe sleep, immunizations, and postpartum recovery. 
  5. Screen for risk factors such as depression, substance abuse, domestic violence, and social determinants of health. 
  6. Collaborate with social workers, community health workers, and other providers to ensure wraparound support. 
  1. Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with MIPH and protocols and YWCA standards. 
  2. Participate in team meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives. 
  3. Uphold trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and client-centered care practices. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Services may be performed at YWCA facilities, client homes, or community locations.
  2. Physical requirements include sitting, standing, bending, and lifting (up to 20 lbs.).
  3. Specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles used: computer, tablet
  4. Frequent travel to and from offsite locations and events 
  5. Occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens, airborne pathogens, or infectious materials

 

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Orientation to YWCA Personnel Policies, Mission, Purpose and Core Values.
  2. Orientation to Home Visitation, Confidentiality, Mandatory Reporting.
  3. Other appropriate training and in-service which will occur during employment.
  4. Must Attend full-day orientations 10/22/2025, 10/23/2025, 11/5/2025, and 3/10/26
