A Brief Overview

The Manager – Technical Accounting and External Reporting performs various duties to support the accounting function's goal of accurate and timely financial reporting, including analysis of complex transactions, maintenance of accounting policies, review and adoption of new accounting standards, preparation and review of financial statements and reporting packages, and communication of accounting policies across the organization. The Manager – Technical Accounting and External Reporting is responsible for ensuring that transactions are reflected properly in the general ledger and financial statements and are in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles ("GAAP"), regulatory, and company policy.

What you will do

  • Lead complex technical accounting analysis, including review and documentation of complex or significant transactions.
  • Independently manage multiple deadlines and complex projects.
  • Communicate summaries, analyses and conclusions regarding complex or significant transactions summaries to accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical memorandums that document issues in a clear, logical, and comprehensive manner.
  • Supports in preparation of related workpapers and complex journal entries.
  • Draft and update footnotes and supporting schedules in annual and interim financial statements and ensure compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Monitor accounting standard setting and support in the adoption and implementation of new standards.  
  • Support in training accounting and non-accounting stakeholders areas of new and existing GAAP, company accounting policies, and complex transactions.
  • Collaborate with other accounting department members to establish/modify procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Interact with external auditors and consultants to assist with various audits and projects.
  • Support other accounting stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of deliverables related to complex and significant transactions and external reporting.
  • Train, coordinate, and direct the activities of accounting staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting Required and Master of Accountancy/MBA Preferred
  • 4 – 8 years of accounting experience Required and 2 – 4 years of Big 4 Accounting or public accounting experience Preferred
  • Active CPA License Preferred
  • Strong knowledge of technical US GAAP topics, including in the areas of consolidation, equity method accounting, business combinations, fair value, noncontrolling interests, and other topics.
  • Ability to independently perform technical accounting analysis, identify key risks and judgmental areas, and establish and document conclusions.
  • Experience analyzing complex fact patterns, performing technical accounting research, and documenting findings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience communicating complex accounting conclusions to accounting and non-accounting stakeholders at various levels across the organization.
  • Project and process management experience, including ability to anticipate future workflows, coordinate with multiple cross-functional stakeholders, establish realistic project plans, and meet key deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Experience in external reporting, including drafting or reviewing footnotes, coordinating reporting processes and stakeholders, and providing audit support Preferred.
  • Experience in reviewing valuation models and fair value Preferred
  • Working knowledge of modern ERP systems such as Workday or Oracle Preferred
