Codman Academy is seeking an experienced educator/coach who is interested in serving in the role of a New Teacher Development Coach. The below job description outlines the purpose, roles and responsibilities of the New Teacher Development Coach.
What is the role of a New Teacher Development Coach?
Codman Academy has many early career educators (educators in years 1-3 of teaching). In addition to mentorship, we believe that all early career educators benefit from targeted and consistent coaching and support. The New Teacher Development Coach will provide instructional, social-emotional and logistical support to help build the knowledge, skill and efficacy of early career educators.
What are the responsibilities of the New Teacher Development Coach ?
The Coach will provide weekly coaching to support a case-load of educators within their first 3 years of teaching, and/or who have not yet secured professional status. This will include activities including, but not limited to:
Support with cultivating and sustaining well structured and empowering classroom environments through the establishment of clear expectations, structures and routines and clear systems for reinforcement and accountability.
Support with lesson planning using High Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) aligned to Mass Frameworks/CCSS.
Support planning for and implementing high leverage instructional practices outlined in alignment with Codman’s vision and expectations of Excellent Teaching and Learning, with a focus on those practices directly related to tier 1
Modeling best teaching and planning practices including collaboratively planning, co-teaching, regularly observing the educators’ practice and providing actionable feedback and/or supporting the mentee to observe the mentor’s practice or visit other model classrooms.
Supporting educators in self reflection, goal setting and professional growth, aligned with district and school licensure and evaluation expectations
Supporting educators with the steps necessary to secure licensure (if relevant)
New Teacher Development Coach Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible to serve as a mentor, educators must meet the following requirements::
At least 5 years of teaching experience under an initial or professional license, with a track record of success
Experience with instructional coaching at either a part time or full time basis
New Teacher Development Coach Support:
The NTDC will report to the Chief of Academics and/or School Principals and work in collaboration with other school-based instructional coaches to ensure coherence and alignment with school goals and priorities, expectations and coaching practices. This will include:
Weekly participation in instructional coaching and planning meetings
Weekly meetings with direct report to review instructional coaching goals, priorities and action steps and inform adjustments to practice.
