The Director of Retail Training & Development is responsible for creating, implementing, and overseeing all training programs that enhance the performance, engagement, and career growth of retail employees. This role will focus on building consistent training standards across all retail locations, developing leadership capabilities, and ensuring exceptional customer experiences. The Director partners with retail leadership, HR, and operations to align training initiatives with overall business goals, retail KPIs, and brand culture.
Key Responsibilities
Training Strategy & Program Design
- Develop a comprehensive training and development strategy that supports Aroma360’s KPI’s.
- Manage the Training and QA development Calendar to ensure this aligns with seasonal planning and promotions
- Lead and Audit Operational excellence and customer journey across all retail locations.
- Design and deliver onboarding, product knowledge, sales, leadership, and compliance training programs.
- Implement blended learning solutions (in-person, digital, e-learning, coaching).
- Maintain training library of content and ensure all resources are accurate.
Leadership Development
- Create career development frameworks/succession planning for retail associates, managers, and district leaders.
- Partner with HR to identify high-potential employees and build succession planning programs.
- Identify future corporate retail trainers to leadership for HR pipeline.
Retail Performance Enablement
- Ensure training content directly improves retail KPIs
- Sales conversion, average transaction value, membership/loyalty enrollment, and customer satisfaction scores.
- Partner with marketing and retail sales teams to create training content for any new promotions and NPD launches
- Build performance dashboards to track the impact of training on business KPIs.
Operational Excellence
- Standardize training manuals, SOPs, and certification processes across all stores.
- Partner with operations to ensure compliance with safety, HR, and regulatory standards.
- Ensure the staff handbook is updated and reflects
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and mentor a team of training managers, instructional designers, and facilitators.
- Partner cross-functionally with Marketing, HR, Operations, and Store Planning to align training initiatives with business priorities.
Continuous Improvement
- Research retail learning trends and introduce innovative approaches to training.
- Collect feedback from employees and store leadership to refine training materials and delivery methods.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, HR, Education, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 8+ years of progressive experience in retail training, development, or retail operations leadership.
- Proven success in building scalable training programs across multi-store organizations.
- Strong knowledge of instructional design, adult learning principles, and digital training tools (LMS, e-learning platforms).
- Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently to retail locations (up to 40–50% of the time).
