Job Overview:
 
Lummus Technology is currently seeking an experienced Senior Technology Specialist to join our Lummus Heat Transfer team in Bloomfield, NJ and work as part of an industry leading team that is passionate about commercializing new technologies. This position will lead efforts in the development of various initiatives involving heat transfer equipment for refining, petrochemical, and polymerization applications. In addition, this role will lead and support projects including modelling activities and oversight of experimental work on demonstration and bench-scale units with the intention of developing new equipment technologies and processes to license or improve upon existing processes. 

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:
 
  • In collaboration with Sr. Director, Technology, manage programs for strategic initiatives and advance state of the art through commercialization of Heater and Heat Exchanger technologies
  • Develop scope to define requirements and scale for new pilot, demonstration, and lab scale equipment.
  • Design and oversee projects for commercial demonstration including development of bench and pilot scale units from PFD/P&ID development, hazard analysis (PHA + Hazops), proposed equipment evaluation, construction, and commissioning
  • Work with strategic partners, vendors and other stakeholders to communicate requirements and evaluate equipment specifications and designs for first of a kind applications with an emphasis on commercialization
  • Utilize simulation software (HTRI, ANSYS, Aspen, Pro II) to establish a design basis for piloting equipment. Review results from advanced CFD and FEA simulations.
  • Maintain strong emphasis on safety.
  • Develop operating procedures for new pilot facilities and establish required data collection requirements.
  • Work effectively with multiple disciplines including mechanics, contractors, operators, safety/environmental and mechanical engineers to construct, modify and commission pilot plants.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • Minimum education requirement is a bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering; advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of industry experience in design of thermal equipment (heat exchangers, fired heaters) for refining and/or petrochemicals.
  • Experience with process simulation to develop flow sheets; experience with HTRI or heater design software is preferred 
  • Experience with small project execution from initial scoping to commissioning.
  • Knowledgeable about HSE issues as they pertain to process safety, laboratory, and pilot plant operations
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Highly developed professional interpersonal skills to enable working with a multiplicity of personalities, nationalities and cultures in a positive way to achieve results.
  • Ability to represent the Company in a professional and respected manner.
  • Ability to adapt to flexible/changing situations and work through them successfully.
  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability and willingness to travel (domestic and international, 10%).
