About the Department
Lead Custodian / Custodial Crew Supervisor
Join our team and take charge of a dedicated custodial crew, ensuring clean, safe, and welcoming spaces for staff and the public. In this role, you’ll schedule and direct daily operations, oversee staff training, manage supplies, and maintain safety procedures. You’ll also perform hands-on custodial duties, set up and tear down conference rooms, and assist visitors by providing information and support. This position offers the opportunity to work independently while making a direct impact on the facility’s operations and guest experience
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3 years of progressively responsible experience performing custodial work and directing the work of others.
- Within six months of hire must obtain/complete the following: Department of Transportation (DOT) certification for shipping papers, marking and labeling, packaging and containment of hazardous waste; Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour General Industry Training course; Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) 100 & 700 courses completion; and First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Valid state-issued driver's license.
- Ability to complete airport driver training/certification.

Position Duties
Performs the full range of duties (with appropriate managerial review), including hiring evaluating, promoting and assigning duties; correcting inappropriate actions or behavior through communication and coaching; initiating discipline or termination as needed; and overseeing employees or a group. Performs the tasks of subordinate employees, as needed.
Inventories all custodial closets and storage rooms throughout the airport. Places orders for supplies. Stocks all custodial closets with restroom cleaning supplies and chemicals.
Maintains stock of first aid kits and bio buckets. Keeps the safety data sheet (SDS) book updated. Inspects facilities and equipment for safety issues. Maintains awareness of security issues and responds appropriately.
Works a custodial shift when short-staffed and/or assists other custodial staff with cleaning responsibilities.
Sets up and breaks down conference rooms. Cleans conference rooms after each use. Removes snow and spreads deicer or sand to prevent slipping or falling on sidewalks and curbs. Conducts special projects. Cleans windows, stainless fixtures, curbs and tenant leased spaces.
Interacts with the public and provides information or directs them to appropriate personnel.

Minimum Qualifications
Additional Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Knowledge of:; general office procedures; common custodial practices; use and maintenance of equipment, cleaning chemicals and tools; effective supervisory practices and procedures; English usage, grammar, punctuation and spelling; and computer usage including related software.
Ability to:; work without close supervision; safely use cleaning products and equipment; read and interpret Safety Data Sheet information; identify safety hazards; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Six years of previous experience in a lead custodial position, experience with custodial equipment and inventory and supply ordering experience.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds, frequently pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. The noise level is occasionally very loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees work in/at heights. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals. Works around the general public and traffic, snow and ice during winter months. Work includes protected exposure to blood borne pathogens, infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals.
This position works: morning, swing and/or graveyard shifts as needed.
