About the Department

Tacoma Power is seeking a Section Manager to lead the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Section of the utility and join our senior leadership team.  We are looking for someone who is customer focused, has experience managing in a unionized environment, budgetary and financial acumen, and has strong leadership skills.

We're looking for an experienced, dynamic, and safety-focused leader to oversee the essential repair, maintenance and construction of the overhead and underground transmission and distribution activities for our organization. This is a high-impact role where you will directly influence our operational efficiency, reliability, and the safety culture for a large, dedicated workforce.

Your Impact & Leadership
As the Construction and Maintenance Line Operations Manager, you won't just manage; you will set the standard for performance and safety across our North and South Service Centers. You will directly lead and mentor a team of approximately 100 skilled professionals across our Line group and Line Clearance operations, including our Trouble Crews and Service Crews.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Manage the day-to-day and strategic oversight of all overhead and underground T&D construction, repair, and maintenance activities.
  • Develop and communicate clear, common priorities and operational plans to ensure all construction, maintenance, trouble, and service crews are aligned toward common strategic goals.
  • Instill a robust safety culture, ensuring strict adherence to all city, state, and national codes and regulations to protect our team and the public.
  • Plan and coordinate the 24/7 restoration activities, serving as a key leader in the Restoration Section of the Incident Command Structure during major outage events.
  • Provide high-quality technical and safety training, offering feedback, and actively mentoring and coaching staff to grow their knowledge and skills.
  • Supervise performance, handle all staffing needs from interviewing and selection to evaluation, coaching, and disciplinary action.
  • Develop clear operational priorities, set team goals, and manage the budgets, forecasting, and resource requirements (personnel, equipment, and materials) for your groups.
  • Coordinate essential communications and activities between your staff, other departments, outside agencies, the Utility Board, and the general public.

Position Duties

Minimum Education*
Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, economics, finance, accounting, engineering, project management or directly related field

Minimum Experience*
6 years of power industry experience directly related to area of assignment, including 1 year of experience as supervisor, manager or SME


*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Some positions may require individuals to complete annual CIP training after employment and pass a comprehensive personal risk assessment (background check) prior to employment and every five years thereafter as required by federal regulatory requirements (NERC-CIP)

AS ASSIGNED:
Washington State Driver's License
