In this role, you’ll be a key contributor to our Item Processing department in Hutchinson, KS, responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our clients' item processing. Your work empowers local community banks to deliver big-bank services, helping them thrive and positively impact the communities they serve.
The hours for this position are on a rotating schedule (5 pm–2 am, 5:30 pm–2:30 am, & 6 pm–3 am CST, Monday through Friday). This role is located in Hutchinson, KS, at the operations building.
What You'll Do
Key responsibilities include:
- Transmit electronic return files to the Federal Reserve Bank or other financial institutions.
- Use imaging applications to manage statement printing workflows.
- Provide timely responses and solutions to client inquiries and issues.
- Balance grouped check and transaction items across various capture methods (Teller, ATM, Merchant, Mobile).
- Perform MICR encoding, reject reentry, and duplicate item verification.
- Ensure quality control and support continuous process improvement.
- Be open to cross-training and provide backup support across all Item Processing and Balance Room functions, ensuring continuity and team coverage as needed.
- Generate and process customer statements using the item processing system, sending print jobs to network printers, and matching Icore reports by bank to ensure accurate distribution.
- Prepare and organize day and evening item processing and balancing reports for individual community banks.
- Manually prepare and insert mail items that cannot be processed by the automated inserting machine, as needed.

- General bank operations experience.
- Introductory knowledge of financial data processing and balancing.
- Familiarity with bank bookkeeping and item transaction processing.
- Understanding of traditional and image-based bank processing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills and strong organizational abilities.
A Day in the Life
Your day begins in the early evening with a review of exception items and preparing critical return files for the Federal Reserve. From there, you’ll dive into balancing transaction data from ATMs, mobile deposits, teller captures, and more—ensuring everything lines up perfectly for our community bank partners. Throughout your shift, you’ll be supporting teammates, answering client questions, generating and verifying statement runs, and helping make sure every item is processed accurately. Whether you’re stepping in to cross-train on another function or manually preparing mail that can’t be auto-inserted, you’ll be keeping operations flowing smoothly behind the scenes. By the end of your shift, you’ll have made a measurable impact—quietly powering the success of local banks and the communities they serve.
