Job Summary: Join our dynamic team as a Prevention Professional Intern in our Paid Prevention Internship Opportunity (PPIO). This 12-month, grant-funded position offers a unique entry-level pathway for individuals passionate about making a positive impact in their community by addressing alcohol and substance misuse. The internship provides a comprehensive learning experience, equipping participants with the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) or Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) credential.

  

Hours: A maximum of 16 hours a week


 Essential Functions:   

  • Community      Engagement: Actively engage with the community by attending meetings,  collaborating with coalitions and task forces, and fostering strong      relationships with stakeholders such as service providers, schools, law      enforcement, and local businesses.
  • Prevention Education and Tools:      Collaborate with community stakeholders to provide effective prevention      education and tools, including workshops and initiatives.
  • Workshop and Initiative      Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of new      workshops and initiatives, staying informed about emerging issues related      to substance misuse.

Requirements

  

Qualifications:

· Passion for community service and addressing substance misuse issues.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

· Eagerness to learn and apply evidence-based practices.

· Pursuing or holding a degree in topics related to substance use, mental health, or surrounding areas is preferred.

· Comfortability commuting up to 40 miles from the greater Utica area. 

· Capable of working in an academic atmosphere.

· Established knowledge of local community and accessible resources preferred but not required. 

· Current and valid NYS driver’s license.
