Summary:
As an SMT Process Engineering Intern at North Atlantic Industries, you will support the development and improvement of electronics manufacturing processes in a fast-paced, high-mix, low-volume environment. You will gain exposure to a production setting that supports both established product lines and new product introductions (NPI), contributing to the build quality and manufacturability of advanced aerospace and defense electronics.
This Internship is for Summer 2026.
Requirements
- Assist with troubleshooting SMT and Through-Hole (TH) assembly issues.
- Support SMT equipment setup, operation, and basic programming under supervision.
- Participate in first-piece build reviews and process evaluations.
- Help gather and analyze data for process improvements and defect root cause analysis.
- Assist in reviewing new product designs for manufacturability when applicable.
- Observe and document operator training for new equipment or procedures.
- Support documentation efforts for process workflows and equipment setups.
- Maintain adherence to AS9100 quality system standards.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Basic understanding of printed circuit board (PCB) assembly and electronics manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings and Gerber files is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- Exposure to SMT or electronics lab environments through coursework or internships.
- Interest in manufacturing process engineering, automation, or quality systems.
- Familiarity with Circuit CAM, Aegis, or similar tools is a plus.
- Eagerness to learn from a collaborative engineering team in a regulated industry.
Full-time schedules for Summer internships. (40 hour week) Approx. Start Date End of May/Beg of June.
This is a paid Internship. Internship salary is based on position and academic year standing.
