ABOUT THE ROLE
The Merchandise Planner will play a key role in shaping how Shinola’s products reach and inspire our customers. By managing Open-to-Buy, supporting seasonal buys, and optimizing inventory flow across channels, this role ensures that our carefully crafted goods are available where and when they create the most impact. Working closely with Merchandising, Allocation, and Supply Chain, the Planner helps deliver thoughtfully curated assortments that celebrate Shinola’s design, craftsmanship, and storytelling. Using data-driven insights, this role will recommend strategic adjustments, build balanced assortments, and contribute to creating memorable brand moments that drive both growth and lasting customer connection.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Management of Open-to-Buy
- Manage and coordinate receipts to OTB budget by channel, validating sales trends against forecasts.
- Recommend adjustments of OTB flow between channels to optimize sales and inventory.
- Track purchase order receipts against budget and work with Supply Chain to ensure timely deliveries.
- Seasonal Merchandise Buy
- Support development and presentation of seasonal buys that align with brand priorities and revenue goals.
- Partner with Sr. Planner to build allocation plans that drive depth and coverage across channels.
- SKU Rationalization & Assortment Planning
- Provide recommendations for current assortment optimization and identify sales gaps/needs.
- Collaborate with Merchants and Allocators to maintain store assortment tiering and SKU counts.
- Sales Performance Reporting
- Track and reforecast SKU performance by channel, region, and style.
- Compile and analyze sales trends, misses, and opportunities with supporting insights tied to inventory.
- Deliver monthly and quarterly recaps comparing sales to plan and in-season forecasts.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with Allocators to ensure inventory coverage and execution of assortment strategies across channels.
- Communicate variances from assortment plans due to inventory constraints to Merchants and Sales teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 1–2 years of planning, allocation, or merchandising experience preferred.
- Microsoft Excel skills required.
- Experience with NetSuite a plus.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent collaboration and verbal communication abilities.
